About me
I’m Dr. Ashleigh Huffman, though many people know me as Docta Ash. I’m a former college basketball player, sports diplomat, strategist, educator, and systems builder whose work is rooted in one belief: sport is more than a game.
I have spent my career helping governments, sport organizations, foundations, and global leaders use sport as a tool for diplomacy, development, inclusion, and public good. My work sits at the intersection of sport, foreign policy, gender equity, and social impact, with a focus on building systems that are not only inspiring, but sustainable, strategic, and capable of reaching people at scale.
As the former Chief of Sports Diplomacy at the U.S. Department of State, I helped lead international exchange programs, Olympic and Paralympic engagement, global partnerships, and sport diplomacy strategy designed to connect people, strengthen communities, and advance shared priorities across cultures and borders. Today, I work with governments, organizing committees, federations, nonprofits, and civic leaders to design sport initiatives that move beyond symbolism and create meaningful, measurable change.
My perspective is shaped by every role I have lived: athlete, scholar, public servant, strategist, facilitator, advocate, and builder. Whether I am advising institutions, shaping national initiatives, moderating global conversations, or writing about the future of sport, my purpose is the same: to help sport live up to its highest promise as a place where people are seen, connected, challenged, and transformed.
